The East African Business Council (EABC) held the EABC@25 Launch Breakfast Meeting held on June 20, 2023, at Hotel Africana, Kampala.
The event marked the beginning of the EABC's country celebration conference and brought together influential business leaders, executives, industry champions and key partners from across East Africa.
The Event was led by Ms. Pheona Wall, EABC Board Member and Mr. Simon Kaheru, Vice Chairperson EABC and Mr. John Bosco Kalisa, EABC CEO, under the theme "EABC @25: Launch of the Country Celebrations in Uganda," the conference featured engaging sessions and insightful discussions. The meeting discussed significant topics on EAC regional agenda, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the private sector and government entities.
The sessions were chaired by notable individuals, including PSFU Director Membership Mr. Francis Kisirinya, UMA CEO Dr. Ezra Muhumuza, Mr. Stuart Mwesigwa EABC Board Members, Mr. Rwabwogo Businge, EABC Board Member and Mr. Andrew Othieno from the Uganda Chamber of Commerce

Membership Satisfaction: EABC conducted a membership satisfaction business survey, achieving an excellent score of 80%, demonstrating high levels of member contentment.
Private Sector Leadership: The EABC stressed the importance of the private sector's role in driving business growth in East Africa, urging companies to take the lead alongside government initiatives.
Export Opportunities: EABC to champion elimination of NTBs and unlock new market opportunities.
Industry Diversification: Dr. Ezra Muhumuza emphasized the need for East African businesses to diversify their areas of concentration through technological advancements in products and services, fostering innovation and resilience.
Challenges in Cross-Border Business: Attendees expressed concerns regarding tax-related issues, counterfeit products. The EABC committed to addressing these challenges, engaging with relevant authorities to seek resolutions and foster a conducive business environment.
The EABC stressed the importance of cooperation among East African Community (EAC) countries, advocating for harmonization of standards and policies to facilitate cross-border trade and mitigate barriers to business growth.
Zero Waste Initiative: UMA presented its green industrial agenda, focusing on key pillars such as environmental restoration, waste management, sustainable practices, and knowledge sharing. The EABC highlighted the importance of considering green economy aspects and funding for a sustainable future.
The EABC@25 Launch Breakfast Meeting provided a platform for constructive dialogue, enabling stakeholders to address critical issues, share insights, and forge strategic partnerships.
